About Professor's Turnings
|
While turning began as a hobby, John is able to pursue his passion more earnestly since retirement from university. His shop is in his basement where his lathe is surrounded by walls of roughed-in bowls that are drying before their final turning.
As most of the logs he turns are donated or re-claimed, most of his bowls are made of Maple, Birch, and Butternut, along with the occasional Cherry or Ash. Every piece is an original and bowls come in a variety of shapes and sizes with food-friendly finishes. He also turns natural edged bowls, salad bowl sets, pepper mills, and enjoys making serving trays and cutting boards from scraps that would otherwise be burned as fuel. |
